Foreword
It gives me immense pleasure to know that two very valuable dictionaries of medical terms have been compiled by Shri Kedar Desai and his team of translators and edited by Dr. Chaitanya Buch (Allopathy), Dr. Mihir Parikh and Dr. Hema Parikh (Homoeopathy).
Works like this strengthen a language as a “Language of Knowledge”. In addition, the practical benefit of this dictionary to students, practicing doctors as well as patients is significant. A work like this takes dedicated effort and commitment spread over a number of years.
The team fully deserves gratitude of the medical fraternity as well as the users of the Gujarati language for this greatly commendable work. As someone interested in Indian languages, I would like to extend my profound sense of appreciation and felicitation to Shri Kedar Desai.

Ganesh N. Devy (b. August 1, 1950), formerly professor of English at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, is a renowned literary critic and activist, and founder-director of the Bhasha Research and Publication Center, Vadodara, and the Adivasi Academy at Tejgadh, Gujarat — established to create a unique educational environment for the study of tribal communities. He led the People’s Linguistic Survey of India in 2010, which researched and documented 780 living Indian languages. He was educated at Shivaji University, Kolhapur and the University of Leeds, UK, has held fellowships at Leeds and Yale, and was a Jawaharlal Nehru Fellow (1994–96). He received the prestigious Padmashree award in 2014. — Kedar Desai
